Who Said It … Erwin Lutzer
Erwin Lutzer is senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago. A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and Loyola University, he is the author of numerous books, including An Act of God? and Making the Best of a Bad Decision. He is also a teacher on radio programs heard on more than 700 stations throughout the United States and the world. He and his wife, Rebecca, have three married children and seven grandchildren.
What he Said … Bad Choices
We have all made our share of bad decisions. Sometimes it's because we've acted contrary to our better judgment, and sometimes because we simply did not have all the facts. We've all had to choose blindly at times, with a hunch that our decision might not be wise, but convinced we can deal with the consequences. Some of these decisions were of little consequence; others greatly affected our lives and the lives of those around us.
I saw a report the other day of a dozen cars that were sidelined on a Chicago expressway after they hit a deep pothole. Truth is, we often don't see the potholes along our paths until we find ourselves in the ditch. Unfortunately, we see our mistakes more clearly in the rearview mirror as we travel life's road, and we somehow fail to anticipate the dangers we are about to encounter. A single decision that appears inconsequential can change the entire direction of our lives. If only we were wiser, we wouldn't be where we are today, wondering whether we'll ever get back on the expressway.

Lord, help me to learn from my bad decisions and to trust that if I repent, you are faithful to bring something good out of even my poorest choices (Rom. 8:28).
