Never Abandoned
Theme of the week: Moving Forward after Bad Decisions
Thursday, November 8, 2012

Key Bible Verse: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5, NIV) Dig Deeper: Isaiah 43:1-4

Although the adult decision makers in Israel's tragic history died in the wilderness, they could take solace in knowing that at least their children would be able to enter the land.

Children do not have to follow in their parents' footsteps. God's grace is greater than the typical cycle of repeated failure within families. Sometimes the most blessed children come from the most unlikely homes and circumstances. Let's not put up a sign on any home that says, "Grace cannot enter here."

Even in the midst of harsh discipline, God was there to bless those who wanted to worship him. He was there to guide the people as they took their next steps on their monotonous journey. No matter how hot the sand and boring the scenery, God was present to remind them that they were not alone. He'd walk with them as they marked time on their self-chosen path.

Do you want guidance after you have chosen second best? God doesn't promise to guide us if we'd prefer to make our own decisions, but he does lead those who seek him with their whole heart. God's presence is near to all who call upon him, even those who find themselves stranded on the rough patches of a life gone bad.

—Erwin Lutzer in Making the Best of a Bad Decision

My Response: What self-inflicted troubles do I need God to guide me through right now?

Thought to Apply: There is many a believer who forsakes God, but there is never a believer whom God forsakes.—Bob Laforge (writer)

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, help me to learn from my bad decisions and to trust that if I repent, you are faithful to bring something good out of even my poorest choices (Rom. 8:28).
