Weekend Bible Study Theme of the week: Escape the Trap of Temptation Saturday, January 19, 2013
 1 of 1

Sin no longer rules over us. Christ has broken its power in our lives (v. 6). Still, temptation keeps beckoning to us from the grave of our put-to death-by-Christ sin nature. All too often we give in to its enticing lure. But we need to see it for what it is: a hideous sham that pales in comparison to the vibrant newness of life in Christ.
Key Study Passage:
Romans 6:6-14
- Why do you think temptation is still so appealing to Christians?
- What steps can we take to lessen temptation's influence over us?
- What are some passages from the Bible that you can draw upon when you are tempted? (See 1 Cor. 10:12-13; Col. 2:13-15; Gal. 6:1-2.)
- Consider sharing your temptations with a Christian brother you trust and committing to hold one another accountable and help one another grow in love for Christ.
- Make a game plan for what you will do the next time you are tempted; commit to resisting temptation and looking to the greater fulfillment that comes from obeying the Lord.
Spend Time in Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you resist temptation; thank him that because of Christ you no longer have to be a slave to your sin.
Romans 6:6-14
6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God's grace.
