Who Said It … Kirk Cousins
Kirk Cousins is one of the most successful quarterbacks in the history of Michigan State University, holding records for passing yards, touchdowns, completions, and more. Kirk was named Academic All-Big Ten four years in a row, and he was selected as the 2011 Senior CLASS Award winner in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. In 2012, Kirk was drafted by the Washington Redskins. He is the author of Game Changer—the source of this week's readings.
What he Said … Don't Overlook the Intangibles
During the NFL draft process, there is a lot of talk about the tangibles and the intangibles. The tangibles are the things that can be measured, like height, weight, [40-yard dash] time, arm strength. The intangibles are the things that can't be measured, like leadership ability, mental toughness, the ability to get along well with others. In essence, the intangibles come from our minds and hearts. I recall watching a program called "The Brady Six." It is the story of the six QBs who were drafted ahead of future Hall of Famer Tom Brady in the 2000 NFL draft. Brady was the 199th player taken that year. Obviously, everyone misjudged him. Why? How?
His tangibles were very unimpressive (slow, skinny, average arm). In fact, he ran one of the slowest 40-yard dash times in the history of the NFL Scouting Combine for quarterbacks. But his intangibles were obviously overlooked. As one coach said during the show, "We neglected to open him up and see what was in his heart."

Heavenly Father, help me model for my friends and family good and godly discernment in my entertainment choices; convict and correct me when my choices don't reflect your will; most of all, may I feed my mind with God-honoring words and images.
