Key Bible Verse: You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way. (Song of Songs 4:7)
Dig Deeper: Song of Songs 4:1-15
When Alan and Judy married, they had all kinds of things in common. Both loved Broadway musicals, gospel music, historical movies, and travel. They also had differences. He was a great reader and loved to talk about books, philosophy, and religion. She loved to spend time working in the yard, which was drudgery to him. She read little and had no interest in intellectual discussion.
In time, Alan wrote more than a dozen books, and he was called to speak in various forums and lecture at universities. Judy made an attempt to read his first few books, but she got little out of them.
You might think that such divergent interests would damage their marriage. But it did not, because both Alan and Judy focused on their common interests and shared them regularly. Furthermore, they maintained a sense of fun. If Alan ventured out in the yard when Judy was watering flowers, it most likely meant a water fight.
No one can be alike in every way, but everyone can major on the important things they have in common and share those to the fullest. Though Judy doesn't read Alan's books and Alan barely knows a petunia from a dandelion, they have remained best friends through 50 years of marriage.

Thought to Apply: Happy is the man who finds a true friend, and far happier is he who finds that true friend in his wife.—Franz Schubert(Austrian composer)

Prayer for the Week
Heavenly Father, show my wife and me how we can strengthen our marriage; and even in difficult times, help us to still look at one another at the end of the day and say, "You are my best friend."
