Theme of the Week: Gotta Be Weak to Be Strong

Key Bible Verse: And he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9, NKJV)

Dig Deeper: 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

God's power becomes available to us when we recognize what little children express when they sing, "Little ones to him belong; they are weak but he is strong."

Let me illustrate the principle this way. Imagine that I am trying to get water out of an old pump well. I have the strength to move the handle up and down, but no water is coming out. God is saying, "You don't have water because you are not weak enough. And if you keep on pumping you're never going to get any water. As long as you think you can handle this problem all by yourself, I am just going to let you go. But when you realize that you need me to step in, then I will open the valve and let the water flow."

The problem is that we keep trying to deal with issues in our lives in our own strength. We do not want to admit we need God's help. But he has told us what it takes to overcome problems: "My grace is sufficient for you … "

We will never be able to release the flow of blessing in our lives until we call upon him to reveal his grace.

—Harry R. Jackson Jr. in You Were Born for More

My Response: When was a time I experienced God's grace in a powerful and profound way? How did that experience change me and the way I approach life?

Thought to Apply: We live in a world full of people struggling to appear strong, in order not to be weak; and we follow a gospel which says that when I am weak, than I am strong. And this gospel is the only thing that brings healing.—N. T. Wright (British theologian)

Prayer for the Week
Omnipotent God, protect me from ever thinking I have it all together or that I can do life on my own. And during those times I am painfully aware of my weakness, use my weakness to display your strength and power.

Today, I face many challenges before me. First, the paperwork for disability retirement..getting it approved. @ndly, our new home acquisition… that You are a part of it in every way…from approvals to move-in to financial issues involved…. 3rd , Bonny's eye surgery… that it be your will to make the operation unnecessary. 4th, Brad & Karin's wedding plans run smoothly without a hitch. Last, that Bonny's brain tumor will fade away. I'm handing these concerns off to you as the most capable being to handle the issues involved. In JESUS name I pray , Amen. My finite weaknesses are painfully evident as I look back over these requests.
