God in Our Midst
Theme of the Week: Heaven: Beyond Harps and Clouds

Key Bible Verse: It will all come about when history has been completed. God will then bring together all things in heaven and on earth under one ruler. The ruler is Christ. (Ephesians 1:10, NIRV)

Dig Deeper: Ephesians 1:3-10

Wild horses, Amazon rainforests, and never-seen creatures in Atlantic depths await the finalization of God's covenant work of perfecting every believer he has foreordained to be included in his forever-family. Herman Bavinck declared [in The Last Things], "The rebirth of humanity is completed in the rebirth of creation. The kingdom of God is fully realized only when it is visibly extended over the earth as well."

The gospel of Jesus isn't only good news for repentant sinners; it is a gospel for a diminished polar bear population, blighted apple trees, and dying star systems. The total work of Christ includes the divine ambition to redeem God's creation from every cursed sin effect.

The final home of people sealed in Christ—with earth and heaven merged into one breathtaking new reality—will be just as Revelation 21:3 announces: "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man" (ESV, et al.). God will be in our midst. How we should long to see this!

When new heavens and a new earth merge into our eternal home with God, the prophecy of Habakkuk 2:14 will at last come true: "The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea."

—Michael Allen Rogers in What Happens After I Die?

My Response: I'll try to imagine what it will be like to walk with God in his redeemed creation.

Feeling so small in comparison to an infinite being. And yet knowing that God loves me because He created me. I would feel so overwhelmed and yet it would seem so natural to walk with my Creator. Wonderful, awesome, indescribable, beyond wordily attributes. I would be speechless. On the contrary, my lips would abound with praise and thanksgiving on his behalf. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Amen. May we be able to get a glimpse into this, as we live trying to make Gods world more beautiful from the inside out. Thank you M.O.I. Amen
