Theme of the Week: Finding Your Purpose

We all seek a life of purpose. We search for that grand design that will give shape to our lives. The truth is, you will find that purpose only when you submit your will to God's. Today's study passage examines the cost of discipleship: your life. But the reward for giving your life to God is receiving new life in return, a dynamic relationship with the God of the universe, and a trajectory toward the glory of the coming kingdom of God. Now that's a worthy purpose!
What do you think it means to "take up your cross" (v. 24)?
Why do you think it's necessary to "give up your life" (v. 25) in order to follow Christ?
How might reflecting on the glory of the coming kingdom of God help you to surrender your life?
In what ways does following Christ shape the way you live your daily life?
What are some promises you can hold on to when the going gets tough? (See Heb. 13:5-6, 1 Pet. 5:6-11, Mark 10:28-30.)
Key Study Passage:
Spend Time in Prayer: Ask God to show you his purpose for your life and then help you to live it out with boldness and grace.
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?[a] Is anything worth more than your soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. 28 And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."
