Todd Wilson's Familyman Weekly Caught in the Web

Hey Dad,
Just heard about another dad who got caught in the web of Internet pornography (maybe that's why they call it the worldwide web). Man, I hate that! I'm not shocked or appalled … just saddened. I mean, Satan knows what kind of bait to use when he goes fishing for men.
I'm sure that dad didn't anticipate where it would lead. It began with a simple click of the mouse when no one was looking. Afterwards, he begged forgiveness from God and promised himself that it would never happen again. But it did. Over time it became easier. He hated what he was doing … but IT always called him back for one "last look."
Well, it's out in the open now. There are children who are embarrassed and a wife who feels betrayed. God can restore the marriage, but the husband is going to have to work like a dog to save it. Was it worth it? No. But still IT calls.
Satan starts fishing early too. I can remember playing over at Jay Morrisan's house when I was in the second or third grade. We were in the basement when he pulled out some magazines, and we thumbed through the pages.
IT's been calling ever since. IT calls in the Wal–Mart checkout line, the lingerie department, hotel televisions, and in places when no one is watching. Every day, we dads hear IT's call and have to make right, inconvenient choices … not only for ourselves but for the families we love. We can't afford to travel alone, let our eyes roam, or surf the Internet without accountability. We can't just fight temptation, we need to run away from it.
Dad, it's up to us to protect our children too, especially our boys. Use Internet filters (see resources below), limit access, or get rid of it altogether. Be careful about sleepovers (remember what you talked about in the dark?), who your children hang around with, and keep those bedroom doors open. Nothing is TOO extreme.
Let me ask you a dad–to–dad question … Are you in over your head? Are you headed out to deep water? It's time to get help. Let another dad know. Don't trust yourself to handle it on your own. It won't work. Ask other dads how they're doing in this area. Don't settle for their first answer. Be persistent and be vulnerable.
Now, pray for your own purity, another dad's that you know, and the dad that I heard about. Seek out help (if needed) and call your wife and tell her that you love her.
You 'da dad! [Todd]
