Hey Dad,

Tuesday was a gray, drizzly day in northern Indiana, but I made the two–minute drive to the Milford Fire Department to vote. For months, all shapes and sizes of candidates who had been promising a brighter future hade bombarded us.

Commentators tried to predict the outcome …but it turned out to be a squeaker. If you're the theological type, you're quick to point out that God appoints kings and presidents, and that He will put the man he wants in the White House. All the same, there seemed to be uneasiness about the day, and the question kept whispering in my ear, "What if 'he' is elected president?"

Then I cleared my head and came back to this important truth: What happens in my house and your house is more important than what happens in the White House. Mind boggling, I know, but true.

Our influence on our children and wife is a million times greater than whoever gets to put his pencil sharpener on the oval office desk.

Don't believe me Dad? Let me ask you this: which president was most influential in your life as a child? Carter, Nixon, JFK, Reagan? How did he affect your choices, your moral character, and well–being?

Now let me ask this: how did your dad influence your life? Ker–pow! Your dad hugely influenced who you are, for better or worse. If you didn't have a dad, then you were affected by his absence.

It's still the same today. Your influence over your children …and your children's children and their children's children is vastly greater than the future president's influence upon them. And your influence on a few children can change the unknown course of the world.

Why?

Father Power!

Now I don't know if that should make you feel good or scared spitless (maybe both), but regardless, that's the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

So Dad, pray for the winner of this year's election, but remember that what's most important today is what happens in your house—not the White House.
