Todd Wilson's Familyman Weekly Rainy Days and Fridays Always Get Me … Up! Friday, August 24, 2007
 1 of 1

Hey Dad,
Well, it looks like another day of rain. For having had such a dry summer, it sure has rained bucketloads in the last week. Today's rain seems even rainier because we were planning to take the kids up to Michigan City to the Indiana Dunes.
It's a great place. The kids run up and down the gigantic sand hills, dig big pits in the sand, and swim. That is—it's a great place when it's sunny. We canceled the day because of the rain.
The kids were disappointed, but they're okay now.
Actually, I don't mind all that much because now I can get some stuff done—and I like getting stuff done. But there's something about a soggy, wet day that makes you feel tired and unmotivated—like you should get a blanket, sit on the couch, and read a good book or watch a sappy video.
That gives me an idea. I know what we can do. Tonight, we'll have a family night—a rainy, just-lie-around-eating-popcorn-while-watching-a-video-or-playing-a-board-game kind of family night. No hype, no bells or whistles, just the Wilson family forced inside due to the rain, enjoying the shelter, the quiet, and each other.
We need it, too. It seems like in the heat of the summer, we've been busily running every which way. And it's almost like God has sent these rainy days to help us slow down.
Ahhh—sounds good.
So, Dad, if it's raining where you live today, maybe you need to call for a Family Night. Order pizza, get a big box of popcorn, play a game or watch a family video, bring down your pillows and blankets, and enjoy your family.
If it's not raining where you live, pretend it is and have a Family night anyway.
You 'da dad!
