Todd Wilson's Familyman Weekly
The Christmas Countdown Dilemma
Friday, December 21, 2007

Hey Dad,

It's the week before Christmas and to my children's delight, it looks like we'll have a white Christmas this year. My kids are running on high-octane tinsel. They're about ready to drive me nuts as they wake up each morning and debate over how many more days there are 'til Christmas. I guess one of the great dilemmas in child-dom is whether you count the current day during the Christmas countdown.

I mean every morning they go 'round and 'round.

"It's only ten more days 'til Christmas!"

"Uh, uh—it's nine."

"No it's not, it's ten!"

"Nine."

"Ten."

And on it goes. Anyway, no matter how you count it, it's close. Now don't panic. There's still plenty of time to get in a night under the tree, watch a special Christmas video like "A Christmas Carol," read the birth account of Jesus (Luke 2:1-20), or even buy your wife a token of your affection (read: not a toaster).

Let me encourage you to leave work early this week, take a day or two off if you can, and plan to do a lot of nothing except enjoy God's best—your family.

Let me also say how much being your friend means to me. I count it a great privilege to be on the Familyman Team with you. And just knowing that you're going through what I'm going through is encouraging to me.

So, Dad, have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
