Make it a Good'un Todd Wilson Thursday, September 10, 2009

Hey Dad,
I'm a little behind today. Just pulled in the driveway from speaking at a family camp in Michigan this week, and now I'm off and running trying to get the RV in shape to take off for another family camp in Pennsylvania.
I'm telling you, Dad, I'm always a little apprehensive about family camp, but it always turns out to be a great family time. One of the added perks is that I get to meet some of the great and normal dads who are a part of Team Familyman, which always leaves me encouraged.
As we head into the weekend, I am remembering my conversation with Familyman, "Charlie Horse" Tim, out by the volleyball court at camp. It was evening and the sun was low in the sky and everything seemed quiet.
"So what do you want me to get out of this [week of camp]?" he asked.
With a little thought I said, "I just want you to enjoy this fleeting moment of time with your family and to realize this is what's most important in your life."
I thought about that ever since. That's not only what I wanted Tim to get out of this past week, but what I want to realize every day, AND why I write these newsletters. Believe me, I'm not some kind of guy who just needs a creative outlet.
I write these for the same reason I speak at family camps, men's groups, homeschool conventions, and churches. I just want you to enjoy this fleeting moment of time with your family and to realize this is what's most important in your life. That's it.
So, my fellow familyman, make this weekend a good'un. Enjoy your children, the break in the normal routine, and your bride. Breathe deeply, hold hands, and draw them up on your lap (if you still can).
Time's passing quickly and one day all these wonderful days will be gone.
You 'da dad,
