Papa Said Yes Todd Wilson Friday, May 29, 2009

Hey Dad,
I've been working like a dog on our house project, every part of my body aches, and we have some serious computer problems (hence this late Familyman Weekly).
The good news is that the new addition over the garage is buttoned up and ready to battle the weather. The bad news is that I'm still too whipped to write much.
And so, I'm going to share with you something I just came across while spending some quiet time in the "throne room." It's taken from the June/July edition of Country Magazine and is written by Linda Brooks.
"I have very few memories of Papa, my maternal grandfather, as he died when I was six. I remember Papa had a pigpen across the dirt road from the farmhouse. One day while we were visiting, my older brother and I found Papa cleaning out the pigpen. The pigs wallowed out a nice, big hole, and my brother and I asked if we could play in it before the pigs were allowed back in.
He said yes! We had a grand old time in the pigpen … My mother must have been dying at the thought.
(Here's the kicker) I can count my memories of Papa on one hand. What if he had said no? We would have accepted that … and I would have one less memory of him."
Dad, as I read the above article I thought about how Dave, our contractor friend, allowed Ike (10) and Abe (8) to swing and climb on the exposed rafters of the new construction. I would have said "No"—because I 'mostly' say no.
Truth is, I need to say "Yes" more often. And I'm guessing so do you.
I'm going to soak my sore body.
You 'da dad … this weekend say, "YES!"
