Thanks Mr. G Todd Wilson Thursday, March 31, 2011

Hey Dad,
After some wonderfully warm weather in South Florida, we're back in cold Indiana. We hit the road in the Familyman Mobile early next week … and I'm not ready.
There's just so much to do when you'll be gone for three months. It seems that for every item I check off the list, I think of two more. Oooh, I just thought of another. On top of that, the kids don't seem to FEEL the weight of packing and leaving. In fact, Maggie has come up to me twice as I type this to ask me what color a princess's bow is in some movie (she's coloring).
You know, it's hard being a familyman … trying to do the important (like helping Maggie) and still do the things that need to get done (like replacing the drain plug on the RV's water heater). Maybe the hard thing is remembering which matters and which doesn't.
A couple days ago it was so clear.
You see, every Tuesday morning for the last twelve years, I've had breakfast with Mr. G. A week ago, he died. The funeral was Monday. The church was packed and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. He was loved and will be missed by so many.
As I sat up on the platform, I had the unique perspective of watching everyone's face as they listened to some of his daughters, grandchildren and friends share fond memories. At that moment it was crystal clear; I knew what was important. God, my wife, my family, and friends. RVs, lawnmowers, cars, and Familyman Ministries didn't even enter the equation.
If only I could remember that daily … if only YOU could remember that. If only you could remember that doing that thing with your son is more important than the business trip you'll be taking, and that spending time helping your wife on her thing is more important than the project that is consuming your thoughts … if only …
Whether we remember it or not … it's still the truth.
You 'da dad,
