Uncle Someday
Todd Wilson
Sunday, May 8, 2011

Hey Dad,

Greetings from Tulsa, OK. After last week's breakdown, the old Familyman Mobile is purring like a kitten, although I was a little startled to discover one of my A/C shrouds was missing (far as I can tell, it blew off somewhere between South Dakota and Nebraska).

God was gracious, and I found a used one that fit perfectly for about half the cost of a new one. Yeah doggie.

Anyway … for the last week, I've been thinking about Uncle Someday. He's not my uncle but a dad in one of my workshops that shared how he had three uncles who always talked about the dreams that they were going to do 'someday.' Sadly, all three died without realizing their dreams.

I assume each Uncle Someday had all the usual reasons for putting off his plans and adventures … children too young, not enough money, gas too high, children too old, not enough saved, gas even higher … you know how it goes.

I don't want to blame Uncle Someday for his woes … but they were HIS own fault. It's too late for him … but it's not too late for you and me … YET.

That's why we drove 600 miles out of our way to see Mt. Rushmore this past week, even after spending $1000 to fix the RV and feeling poor and uneasy. BUT I was not going to be an Uncle Someday.

The truth is that there are always good reasons NOT to do something. Gas will always be expensive, you'll never have enough extra time, and the kids will always be the wrong age. AND one day you will die.

So, Dad, if you don't want to end up like Uncle Someday, you better do those dreams and adventures … TODAY!!!!

You 'da dad,
Uncle Today!
