November
1 National Men Make Dinner Day Enough said.
4 The tomb of King Tut was discovered in Luxor, Egypt, on November 4, 1922.
Legend has it that many Egyptian tombs were guarded by a sphinx. Entrance was allowed only if you could solve a riddle. Make up age-appropriate riddles for your children.
I have four legs. I eat grass.I give milk. I say moo. What am I? -Cow
I am round. I am red, green or yellow. I grow on trees. I taste yummy. What am I? -Apple
9 Guinness World Records Day.
Set your own family records. How many times can you catch a ball without dropping it? How many times can you jump up and down? What's the fastest lap you can run all the way around the house? Keep a chart on a dry-erase board and try to break records throughout the year.
November 11: Veterans Day
11 Create a patriotic hide-out with streamers.
If you live in the U.S., teach your children that they live in the country called the United States of America.
Help your kids find a person in the military (past or present) and thank them for their service.
With maps, point out the U.S. and your state.
Show them an American flag and talk about the stars and stripes.
For fun, tape red, white and blue streamers along the edge of a table to drape down to the floor. Children will enjoy playing in their own patriotic hide-out.
Help your child create an American Flag Reward Chart. Use inexpensive star stickers to fill in the stars when good deeds are done.
15 America Recycles Day.
Teach your children the importance of recycling. Label bins: Plastic, Paper, Aluminum and Glass. Let your preschooler be responsible for sorting recyclables into their appropriate bins.
November 22: Thanksgiving Day.
Actions speak louder than words. With your children, offer a fresh pie, a small evergreen tree or help with a mundane task to a friend or neighbor and let someone know how grateful you are for their friendship to your family.
