Artist Spotlight: Plumb
Music inspired by motherhood.
By Rachel Ryan
Recording artist Plumb, Tiffany Arbuckle Lee, has a lot going on in her life. Since her recording debut ten years ago, Tiffany has established herself as a passionate performer and authentic songwriter with many songs featured on movie and television soundtracks such as "Evan Almighty," "The Perfect Man," and "A View From the Top." After beginning her critically acclaimed career, Tiffany also has taken on the roles of "wife" to Jeremy and "mother" to Solomon (3), Oliver (1) and baby #3 due in July.
As an artist known for her raw, authentic music, Tiffany says motherhood has only strengthened her music and made it more intentional. She quickly explains that it's not that she was unintentional before kids, but knowing her children and perhaps grandchildren will one day listen to what she's written and sung has given her new perspective. Out of the experience of motherhood comes Tiffany's latest album, Blink, inspired by her two sons. Described as "more than peaceful lullabies," Blink is genuine and unique, full of wonder and awe that touches the heart.
While Tiffany has grown and changed as a mom, the process of being an artist continues. "This is in me," she says. "I'm a wife and mother and singer and writer. And in order for me to truly be faithful in any of those roles and relationships, I must be faithful to them all. Yes, now I'm a mother, and I'm so much more than just that, too. Sadly, that's something I think many women fail to realize after motherhood, and it can cause their children to suffer. I hope to inspire other women to continue to pursue their dreams and passions and be the gifts of unfathomable worth to a generation aching to respect them."
Being faithful to all the roles she fulfills hasn't been easy for Tiffany. One of the hardest things she's had to do is learn to ask for help. "I felt guilty asking for help after I became a mother," confesses Tiffany. As a new mom, Tiffany tried to do it all and compared herself to her mother who stayed home and raised Tiffany and her siblings. However, Tiffany's husband, Jeremy, was quick to point out that Tiffany's mother hadn't been a singer and songwriter and since that was who God had created Tiffany to be, she still needed to do that. "My children come before my career, but my career is still part of my life," Tiffany explains. "For me to make it a priority, but not take precedent over my children, I had to ask for help."
Help these days comes in the form of a part-time assistant who helps Tiffany with household tasks, errands and babysitting four times a week. "I am 100 percent Mommy until Solomon and Oliver are down for their naps," says Tiffany. During naptime, while her helper stays home with the boys, Tiffany leaves the house and writes songs. Wanting to model a good work ethic to her sons, Tiffany doesn't shy away from doing the dishes or laundry, but enjoys working with her assistant to accomplish household chores.
"Our lifestyle is such that we can't be who we were created to be in the healthiest way, in all different areas, all by ourselves." Tiffany realizes not all young mothers have the luxury of the type of help she has, but encourages moms to find the help they need, whether that's through MOPS, local playgroups or mom co-ops.
While Plumb's recordings are making an impact on lives around the world, at the same time Tiffany remains committed to her role as mom as she raises the next generation.
"Fame and fortune are fleeting," she says, "but real faithfulness, making a difference in a person's life, lasts for eternity."
