Writer's Guidelines:
Our Purpose:
MomSense is a theme-based bimonthly magazine published by CTI as the official publication of MOPS International. MomSense nurtures mothers of preschoolers from a Christian perspective with articles that both inform and inspire on issues relating to motherhood and womanhood.
The MomSense editorial advisory board is guided by the organizational mission: To create a seeker-sensitive magazine that meets the needs of moms while moving them one step further in their spiritual development.
Our Readers:
Our audience consists of approximately 100,000 mothers of preschoolers (infants through kindergarten). Most of our readers are between 25 and 40, married, and attend local MOPS groups, although we welcome and encourage content for mothers outside these demographics.
Although most MomSense readers are Christians, many are not. MomSense seeks to meet the needs of every momurban and suburban moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teens, single, and married momsmoms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms that they can be.
Our Tone:
MomSense articles are warm, honest, positive and encouraging. Writers share their insights and experiences as fellow learners rather than teachers. Each issue includes a balance of articles that are inspirational and practical, and that address the reader as a woman and as a parent.
Our Writers:
For writer's guidelines, including upcoming MomSense themes, please see www.MOPS.org/momresources/writersguidelines/momsensemagazine.
Our Editorial Needs:
- MomSense magazine is looking for non-fiction articles that target a mother with children from birth through kindergarten, and nurture her both as a woman and as a mother. We are looking for humorous, inspirational, or thought-provoking personal stories and well-researched practical information that appeal to a wide variety of mothers and will inform mothers on subjects relevant to their lives. We particularly need humorous articles, and practical articles for moms as a mom or as a woman.
- Topics of particular interest to our readers include insights into the reality of parenting, family living, time and money management, pregnancy, and health. We also frequently feature educational helps and activities or crafts for preschool-aged children.
- Each issue is theme-based, so the content you submit should be appropriate to that issue's theme. Themes are decided annually in March and are available in April at www.MOPS.org under Mom Resources. MomSense is also looking for thought-provoking reflections into deeper topics that fit our themes. Previous articles include joy, seizing the day, and making and breaking habits.
- MomSense is planned four months in advance, so please submit query letters or manuscripts according to the due dates listed below.
- All submissions should be written from a biblical, but not doctrinal, perspective. We are looking for ideas that will challenge and help women regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey. MomSense does not accept devotions. Please avoid Christian jargon and use biblical quotes sparingly.
- MomSense magazine does not publish or promote single opinions on controversial subjects that divide our readers. These include doctrinal, political, and social subjects, as well as parenting issues that bring up strong emotions. While the decisions that you have made for your family may come up in your submission, do not assume that all readers will see things the same way.
