We're Getting Choosy
The Academy Awards are right around the corner, so it's time for us to make our picks.
by the staff | posted 2/22/2005

The Academy Awards are on tap for Sunday night (ABC, 8 p.m. ET), and like everybody else who follows movies, we're anxious to see who wins all those little golden statuettes.

We've already weighed in with a couple of year-end lists, our Critics' Choice Awards and our Most Redeeming Films of 2004. And now we're going to make a few Oscar predictions.

We asked five of our critics to make their picks in a number of Oscar categories. First, we asked each critic who they think will win the category, and then we asked who they want to win. (And of course, in some cases, the one they wanted to win wasn't even among the nominees, but there's not much we can do about that.)

Not surprisingly, there was very little consensus among our panel of critics—Russ Breimeier, Peter T. Chattaway Lisa Ann Cockrel, Jeffrey Overstreet, and Ron Reed. The only unanimity came in three categories: Best Actress (they all think Hilary Swank will win for her role in Million Dollar Baby), Best Animated Film (where they all believe The Incredibles will win), and Best Original Screenplay (they all predict Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will win).

Check out all of their votes below. (Note: Ron Reed chose to abstain from a number of the votes.)
