Big Idea: A Different Pirates Movie
Big Idea and Universal Pictures announce a second big-screen engagement for the VeggieTales franchise; The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything set to release in 2008. Plus: More X-Men spin-offs; a Ten Commandments spoof; Cannes winners; and more.

It sounds like the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything are finally going to be doing something. Big Idea, the studio home to the beloved VeggieTales series, announced last week that its second big-screen feature will hit theaters in 2008, distributed by Universal Pictures. The title, of course, is The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie.

The film will mark the second time that the beloved, edible characters from the popular Christian animated series will make it to the silver screen; in 2002, Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie grossed a surprising $25 million. According to a press release, the new film will be "directed by Mike Nawrocki and is based on a script written by Phil Vischer, who will also serve as executive producer through his production company, Jellyfish Labs."

Big Idea describes Pirates as "a comedic adventure filled with family-friendly lessons on the importance of doing what is right, even when it's difficult and discovering that real heroes don't have to be tall, strong, handsome, or even human."

The movie promises to take many of the franchise's most popular characters—including, of course, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber—and place them in a pirate setting.
