They say trends are cyclical, and that certainly seems to be true for vampires, who are surging in popularity thanks in no small part to Stephenie Meyers' series of young-adult, romance-oriented vampire novels. Not only are the books bestsellers, but the first film adaptation is, as well—which is no small feat, since it isn't even in theaters yet. Twilight, releasing this Friday, is already a box office hit, thanks to advance sales from sources like Fandango.com. Hollywood Elsewhere reports that, in the final week leading up to the movie's release, Twilight was already outpacing High School Musical 3 in early ticket sales, making it one of the most hotly anticipated movies of 2008.

The Industry Standard attributes much of the film's early success to its intense, far-reaching online marketing campaign, mostly targeted toward teen girls. The film's online campaign, which includes various trailers, has made the soundtrack a No. 1 bestseller, and has led to the movie accounting for well over half of Fandango's sales.

But the ultimate indication of the movie's success is that Summit Entertainment—the studio behind the film—has already purchased the rights to the next three books in Meyers' series. That's right: With the first film still yet to release in theaters, preparation is already under way for at least three sequels. The second and third books in the series—New Moon and Eclipse—are already being adapted by screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who also penned Twilight. Currently, the studio has not confirmed who will write the screenplay for the fourth novel, Breaking Dawn.

Oh: And moms like them, too.

No, did not like this movie at all, and esp. because it is geared to young teen girls who seem to fall for this stuff, like the Vampire. We should not let our children or adults be influenced into thinking this is a GOOD movie - it is not. Even the churches seem twisted on the topic of this movie! It is dressed up OCCULT and will end up badly in other sequels covering dying (turning one's self over to an evil God), occult blood, pregnancy and lack of HOPE. We cannot replace Jesus promise and try to live forever in another path... This movie is a sacriledge. Ishaei 5:20 "Woe to those who make evil good"....
