Reel News: 'Jack's Ambassador' on the Narnia Set
Doug Gresham, C. S. Lewis's stepson, speaks about his role in the upcoming films. Plus: Millions is truly moving; see Sith early for charity; Idaho legislature celebrates Napoleon (sweet!), and much more.

When The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe hits theaters in December, if you like the way Disney has adapted the book, you can thank Douglas Gresham—C. S. Lewis's stepson who is serving as co-producer of this and any future Narnia films.

But then, if you don't like the adaptation, you can blame Gresham too.

In an exclusive interview with NarniaWeb, Gresham described his role: "One of our producers on set one day was introducing me to someone who asked, 'What does he do on this project?' His reply was 'He's to blame.'"

Gresham laughed as he shared the story, and went on to note that he is "responsible for consultation on all aspects of the production as a sort of in-house Narnia expert."

"Making the movie has been a dearly held ambition and project for me for about thirty years (my children remember me dreaming, scheming, planning, and talking about it all their lives), so every aspect of it is important to me. I suppose I represent Jack [C. S. Lewis] himself as a sort of creative ambassador. The aim of this is to use my abilities, knowledge and experience to make this movie as good as we can possibly make it."

Gresham went on to say that Lewis "would want to protect the integrity of each of the books, and preserve very carefully the messages that each is intended to convey."

The interview gives a close-up glimpse into the cinematic world of Narnia—through Gresham's eyes—and it's well worth reading.
