The battle over Expelledthe new documentary about intelligent design, starring Ben Steincontinues to draw media attention. The New York Times investigates Roger Moore, an Orlando film critic who was invited then disinvited to a screening of the movie, sneaked in anyway, and published a scathing review. Though the film does not open until April 18, Moore has already condemned it for its use of "loaded" images and manipulative rhetoricwhat he calls a "Holocaust denier's" tactics.
Stein, responding to Moore in a phone interview, calls the critic's words "nonsense," and accuses Moore of being "extremely confused."
The Times article notes that the film does have many supporters, however, including James Dobson of Focus on the Family and Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis, as well as The American Spectator's Tom Bethell.
Meanwhile, The Tallahassee Democrat accuses the movie of being a political gesture, noting that screenings in Florida have been timed to coincide with a bill going before the state legislature that once again puts the creation-evolution debate on the table.
