Snapshot
Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White
Seven-time Grammy-award winning bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and country/bluegrass singer Sharon White say it's their commitment to the Lord that makes their marriage strong. They live in Tennessee, where Sharon homeschools their two children, Molly (16) and Luke (11). Ricky also has two adult children, Mandy (23) and Andrew (21) from his first marriage.
A fun night in our house is: When we all play music together. Luke plays the violin, Molly's on the piano, and Ricky accompanies them with guitar. We love Irish music.
Our favorite kind of date: Dinner and a movie. We also like taking mini-vacations to the mountains or the beach.
One of the most challenging things we've faced is: When Ricky played 200 road dates a year. It was hard to feel connected after being out of touch for such long periods of time. But we learned from that, making a new schedule that works better for us. Instead of going away for a month, he might just play over a weekend.
Some of the best advice we got: Do the right thing, no matter what. And never go to bed angry.
What's important to us is: Having time to talk. It's so important for us to know how the other is doing.
Our marriage works because: We have committed our lives, music, children, and home to God. We would be nothing without that.
