Rut-Busters

Say 'good-bye' to the old you

If you've heard it once, you've heard it three or four times: "We never do anything different. " There's a certain comfort to be found in sameness, but it can also lull your marriage into a state of perpetual monotony. If you've grown tired of doing the same old thing, try a few of these. Remember, a rut-buster a day keeps the boredom away.

1. Sit someplace different in church.
2. Dance to a romantic song on the radio.
3. Take a different route to work.
4. Celebrate your anniversary every six months.
5. Trade alarm clocks.
6. Repair the faucet instead of letting it drip.
7. The next time you run an errand, ride your bike.
8. Tomorrow morning, when you put on your pants, insert the other leg first.
9. Try a new sport.
10. Switch your underwear to the sock drawer.
11. Pick up the instrument you played in high school.
12. Watch Letterman instead of Koppel.
13. Back into your driveway.
14. Hide the remote.
15. Play Uno by candlelight.
16. Remember that restaurant you went to once and hated? Give it a second try.
17. Come home 20 minutes earlier than expected.
18. Have a carpet picnic.
19. Eat lunch left-handed.
20. Take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator.

What are your favorite ways to bust a rut? Tell us what works for you, and we'll print the most imaginative suggestions in a future issue. Send them to:
