Independent Artist Submissions

Because we're always interested in sharing talented new Christian artists with our readers, Christian Music Today is open to receiving CDs and press kits from independent artists. Due to the enormous number of projects we receive, however, it is simply impossible to correspond with every artist that contributes. We ask that you refrain from contacting us for confirmation of receiving your album—if you use proper postage and mail to the address below, we're almost certain to receive your mailing. Also, because of logistics, we cannot provide individual feedback and advice concerning your project. Please understand that we do give all submissions a fair listen, and that we will be in touch if your music is something we would like to share with our readers.

If you are an independent artist who would like to be considered for review on our site, please send your CD(s) and any related press materials to editor of independent artist coverage:

Meet the Staff of Christian Music Today

Mark Moring, Co-Editor
Mark had the good fortune of having two older brothers who got into pop music in the 1960s and early 70s, so Mark grew up listening to the likes of The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones—basically the greatest rock bands of all time. In high school, Mark became something of a Bruce Springsteen freak, and has seen The Boss live in concert 17 times since 1974. His longtime favorites include Springsteen, U2, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, Yes, Jethro Tull, and Emerson Lake & Palmer. His more recent favorites include Over the Rhine, Sara Groves, P.O.D., Jars of Clay, Carolyn Arends, Andrew Peterson, and The Welcome Wagon. Oh, and some dead dude named J.S. Bach, which might explain why he much prefers the great hymns to "contemporary worship" songs (ugh). Mark also is editor of Christianity Today Movies.

Todd Hertz, Co-Editor
Until he was in high school, Todd thought music ceased to be made after 1979. Growing up in home where his parents only listened to rock of the 60s and 70s, Todd was shocked when he first heard modern music from his friends. While he introduced them to Iron Butterfly and The Who, they introduced him to The Beastie Boys, Collective Soul, and Metallica. Everything changed when Todd went to Cornerstone Music Fesitval as a volunteer chaperone for his sister's youth group and first discovered Christians making music—good, diverse music like rap, hardcore, and punk. As the music editor for Ignite Your Faith magazine for 5 years, Todd got to delve into the stories and music of these artists and started a real love affair with the music of believers. His favorites include Anberlin, Staple (R.I.P.), Relient K, Monarch, Eisley, Family Force 5, TobyMac, The Benjamin Gate (R.I.P.), Superchick, Switchfoot, and MuteMath.

Meet Our Contributors

Andree Farias, freelancer and hip-hop go-to guy at Christian Music Today, is a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey, studying Journalism with an emphasis in Media Criticism. While hip-hop is his forte—he maintains you have not lived until you've heard A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory—he's known to low-ride to selections ranging from early Mariah and '90s grunge/alternative gems to the grand U2 and indier-than-thou mainstays Radiohead. On the spiritual side of things, Andree leads two youth Bible studies and plays bass with his local worship band, but he generally has trouble singing along because of those darned offbeat notes.

Andy Argyrakis, a Chicago-based freelance writer/photographer, also appears regularly in the Chicago Tribune, Illinois Entertainer, and Concert Livewire. His "In Focus" celebrity interview column is featured weekly in the Daily Journal and his "Standing Room Only" section is a monthly staple in CCM magazine, where he serves as a contributing editor. Though barely old enough to remember the early '80s (let alone the 1970s), Andy's a retro fanatic all the way, scouring thrift shops throughout his travels to find tacky vintage garments and pointless old-school memorabilia. His official website is www.andyargyrakis.com.
