Introducing...Amy Perry
It wasn't clear how Selah would carry on without Nicol Sponberg, but the inspirational group has settled on a new vocalist who looks like she'll fit in just nicely.

Tell us about your musical training and experience growing up.
Amy Perry: I started singing when I was very young. I had my first voice lesson just before my 5th birthday. It was supposed to be a piano lesson, but my mom told the teacher I wanted to sing, so she decided to split the lesson into half piano and half voice. After five minutes the teacher came out and told my mom I was a singer! I also did musical theater for about seven years as a teenager, and took voice in college as well.
You moved to Nashville to pursue a Christian music career, but you hadn't even heard of Selah?
Perry I had heard of them, I had just never heard them. I know it sounds funny, but I actually didn't listen to a lot of contemporary Christian music. I am more drawn to worship music, and being on a praise team at a big church before I joined Selah, that was all I had been listening to.
What is it about Selah that drew you to them?
Perry When I bought their Hiding Place CD, literally with the first song, I was hooked. I couldn't stop listening to it—it was so powerful, and their voices were so amazing. Then it became all I wanted; to be in this group that ministered so powerfully to me.
What was the greatest challenge for you in pursuing this opportunity?
Perry The travel. Flying a lot is hard for me. Also for me, as a woman, it has been my physical image. A lot of people in the music industry expect you to look a certain way, and I just don't fit the mold of most artists. But as nervous as I was about my appearance, it has never been an issue with these guys.
What do you love most about performing with Todd and Allan?
Perry I love their hearts. They are as real as anyone can get, and what you see onstage is the real them. They are like brothers to me, always making sure I am okay … and they are fun. It's nice to be around people who don't take themselves too seriously.
What do you believe you add to the group's sound?
Perry I definitely bring some volume! Being a soprano, my voice lends a different element to our sound, but we still have that "Selah sound"—just a little higher now.
Which song from the new album are you most proud of?
Perry "Faithful One." Every time I hear it, I am reminded of how great God really is, and how no matter what I'm going through, he always has and always will be there. Oh yeah, and "Ain't No Grave." Everyone seems to respond to that one—it just knocks your socks off!
