Mark Stuart, the lead singer of popular Christian rock band Audio Adrenaline, discussed the powerful impact of their latest single and video, "Ocean Floor."
When a band writes a song, seldom do they think they've just written a hit, much less a song that impacts those who hear it. This unsuspected hit song for Audio Adrenaline, entitled "Ocean Floor," is the current single from their latest release, Lift.
'Ocean Floor' has turned out to be the most talked about song on Lift," said Audio Adrenaline front man, Mark Stuart. "The response we've received from this song has been awesome."
Mark feels the reason for the popularity of "Ocean Floor" is not just its strong musical value, but for the message the song sends. "Ocean Floor" was written on the premise that when you open your eyes to God's grace, you realize how much you are covered by his love and forgiveness.
"I think people really connect with what the song says," Mark notes. "'Ocean Floor' reminds listeners of the power of God's grace. The lyrics paint a vivid image of how God buries our sins at the bottom of the ocean if we just give them up to him."
When the band got together to write songs for Lift, guitarist Tyler Burkum came to the table with an idea and a melody. He shared with the rest of the guys the chorus he'd written - "They're All Behind You / They'll Never Find You / They're on the Ocean Floor / You're Sins Are Forgotten / They're on the Bottom / Of the Ocean Floor."
"Tyler played the chorus he'd written and we were blown away," Mark remembers. "We immediately knew this was a song we wanted to run with. Bob (Herdman) and I began writing the lyrics, and everything just flowed."
Radio play of "Ocean Floor" is making a huge impact, and the song is being played by major market AC stations that haven't played a single by Audio Adrenaline since their 2000 AC hit single, "Hands and Feet." When questioned why the single was added to their playlist, KFSH 95.5 (the Fish in Los Angeles) programmer, Bob Shaw said, "In our research, 'Ocean Floor' was getting enormous listener response, and we just couldn't ignore the impact it was making."
"We knew this was a song with a powerful meaning, but we had no idea it would have the effect on people that it has had," said Mark. "Its an awesome feeling to hear that a song you wrote and a song you perform is turning people to the amazing strength of God's grace."
