Ben Glover Musician, Mechanic, and McConaughey
interview by Michael Herman
posted 11/12/01

Ben Glover is one of those guys that would instantly remind you of one of your friends the moment you meet him. He has that instant comfort, rapport, and charm that you expect of a close friend.

Ben's Word Records debut, 26 Letters, is an extension of his personality in a big way. It's very personal, and he doesn't mind sharing his life and self with us.

A song can only share so much, however, so in order to get to know Ben better, we sat down with him and asked a few more questions. Twenty-one questions for an artist with only 26 letters to choose from…you do the math, we did the interview.

What three words describe you best?
Introspective, real, and quirky.

What three words best describe your album, 26 Letters?
Thoughtful, encouraging, and hopeful.

Do you collect anything?
When I was young I collected football cards, but today I collect Denver Broncos memorabilia.

Do you have a hidden talent?
I tinker with cars, so I guess I'm a mechanic in some of my spare time.

What's the best advice your Dad ever gave you?
Be teachable in every circumstance.

Nichole Nordeman, Wes King, Train, Cindy Morgan, and Jonatha Brooke.

What's a word or phrase that you overuse?

What are your pet peeves?
Slow drivers in the left lane, and when my french-fry container isn't full.

When are you most productive?
After midnight, before 3:00 am.

What job would you like to be able to do for a day?
Denver Broncos quarterback.

Who do some people say you look like?
Matthew McConaughey.

What language would you like to be able to speak?
Spanish.

What fad are you currently resisting?
Coloring my hair purple.

What would you like to bring back into style/popularity?
He-man!

What's a bad TV show you can't stop watching?
I guess one show would've been the XFL while it was still in existence.

When do you most often listen to music?
While I'm driving.

What's one quality in a person that you admire?
Teachability.

When was a time in your life when you were extremely afraid?
I remember one time when my fiancé was taking a long road trip and I didn't hear from her for quite awhile. I was definitely afraid that she might be in trouble.

What would you like less of in your life?
Half-eaten stale bags of potato chips in the pantry.
