Rachael Lampa, one of the crop of new female teen singers that's burst onto the Christian music scene in the past two years, has a busy life but she doesn't mind. In between touring (including an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno), receiving a Dove Award (for 2001 Inspirational Song of the Year, "Blessed"), appearing in Seventeen and Teen People, and attending high school, this 16 year old has even managed to squeeze in some basketball, the last thing you'd expect from someone who's "five-foot-nothing." It's this determination and spunk to overcome obstacles (such as being the shortest chick on the court!) that Rachael brings to everyone she meets and to her music. Read on for insights into what makes "Rachey-foo" tick.
What three words describe you best?
Short, happy, and excited (about life).
What motivates you?
God's plan for me.
What are your spiritual gifts?
Discernment and wisdom.
What's one thing you've overcome in your life?
Fear, having to do with my lack of self-confidence.
What's something in the past month you'd like to do over?
I know I missed a lot of opportunities God gave me at school.
What would your friends say is something you do that's "odd?"
My randomness and my humor.
What are a few of your habits?
I smack my gum, and I bite my lip and cheeks a lot.
What are some of your nicknames?
Rachey-poo, Rachey-foo, and Ray La. Someone called me that last one at a concert, sort of how "J Lo's" nickname came about. You know, part of my first name and part of my last name.
What clubs/activities are you involved with in high school?
Basketball, softball, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and student council.
Name a few of your favorite Web sites
I pretty much use the Internet for e-mail, a LOT of e-mail. So, I'd have to say Hotmail.com.
What job would you like to do for a day?
Work with kangaroos.
What's a great lesson you've been taught?
We're not put into situations by accident, it's according God's plan and design.
What's something you think you should do better?
Recognize blessings.
What animal, other than a dog or a cat, do you think would make a fun pet?
A baby elephant that stayed "small" somehow.
What would you take out of your life if you could?
The part of myself that holds me back from doing some good things. I sometimes get too analytical in my thinking.
Do you collect anything?
I used to collect postcards from different places I'd visit, but not as much anymore. I've been given a lot of stuffed animals, so that's sort of a collection.
Do you have a hidden talent?
Well, I guess belching. Can I say that?
If you were on the show "Survivor," what would your luxury item be?
My Bible.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
"Whatever" and "awesome."
Meeting what person would leave you starstruck?
Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, or Mariah Carey.
If you were given a two-week vacation anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go?
Hawaii, or any great beach.
