For the first time on national television, Christian pop star Michael W. Smith discussed details about his bout with drug addiction early in his career on Larry King Live last Friday. "One time [I] almost [suffered] a drug overdose," Smith told King. "[I] didn't know what I was doing, snorted something that I thought was one thing and it's another [ … ] I mean just stupidity, just ignorance." Click here to read the full transcript. meets … Bono? The vocal pop quartet met up with the U2 frontman at the 54th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on February 2, where the women were invited to perform. Speakers for the event included King Abdullah II of Jordan, President George W. Bush, and Bono, who gave an impassioned speech about eliminating poverty and tackling the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Mammoth-sized rockers P.O.D. have unveiled plans to hit the spring-tour circuit with Christian rockers Pillar, plus The Chariot, and Maylene & The Sons of Disaster. Tour dates will be announced soon.
After eight years of recording and touring, alternative rock quintet The Juliana Theory has called it quits, according to an announcement on the band's MySpace.com page. In an extensive blog posting titled "The Juliana Theory Is Dead," the group spelled out the details for their breakup, noting "practical reasons" and financial strain as the basis for their decision. The message traces the band's beginnings with Tooth & Nail Records to their unproductive tenures with Epic and later Abacus Records. There are no plans for a farewell tour.
A little over ten years after its original release, ForeFront Records is planning to reissue dcTalk's 1995 classic, Jesus Freak. The commemorative edition will be available in a single-disc remastered version and a deluxe edition that will include, among other goodies, the remastered disc, special remixes and the concert DVD of Welcome to the Freak Show. The set is set to bow some time this summer.
On April 4, modern rock quartet Sanctus Real will release its third album, The Face of Love. Produced by Chris Stevens (tobyMac, Shawn McDonald), expect the album to deliver more of the punchy brand of pop rock the band is known for.
