An Exclusive Interview with Peter Furler
The first single from Thrive, 'It Is You,' went number one and broke all sorts of radio records. Then your second single, 'Million Pieces,' went No. 1. How did you celebrate?
Peter: I headed back into studio to write more songs!
How do you pass the time between tours?
Peter: I spend time with family, write songs, and ride motorbikes.
What's the weirdest record you've ever heard?
Peter: Last week I listened to a CD called "Bollywood." It's really good, but it's crazy. It's contemporary music out of Bombay.
What is there about you that would surprise most people?
Peter: I'm a lover of silence peace and quiet.
If you weren't making Christian music, what would you be doing?
Peter: I'd be a fireman.
If you could choose any living musician to jam with the Newsboys, who would it be?
Peter: The Edge (from U2).
What was your first job?
Peter: I was an aquatics instructor.
Tell us about your hometown in Australia.
Peter: It's a small coastal town with weather like California, but with the isolation of Maine. It's a very beautiful community on the water.
What are you reading right now?
Peter: The Bible (every day) and Confessions by St. Augustine
Describe the Newsboys' first gig together.
Peter: Our first paying gig was on the front porch of someone's house at an 18th birthday party. Our first non-paying gig was my sister's birthday party at my parent's home.
Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Photos
Back in October, Newsboys did their photo shoot for Adoration. The shoot took place in Nashville, TN at an underpass, parking garage and apartment complex. The idea behind this concept is that we are all constantly on a spiritual journey of worship. The scale of the highways and underpasses are huge, and when we stand next to them, we are so small. It's a rather artsy concept, but very significant and relevant to the project
signifying how huge God is and how small we are.

This and the next few images were taken in a parking garage in downtown Nashville. Pictured l-r: Tim Ashworth, photography assistant; Matt Barne, photographer; Benji Peck, Sparrow Records Art Director; Newsboys.

More parking garage shots.

There is a lot of waiting around during a photo shoot! Here Peter and Jeff are waiting for the next set up.

Another set-up was in front of an apartment complex. Here Benji brings a chair as a prop for this shot.
