The Storm Is Over marks the debut of Dexterity Sounds, a new joint recording venture between EMI Gospel and Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter's House Church in Dallas. Jakes is a popular and successful minister, reaching out across ethnicity and social status to thousands of people via the arts. After ministering through television, books, and theatre (Woman, Thou Art Loosed), Jakes now launches into the music arena with his church's choir. You can hear Bishop Jakes speak between and during several tracks on The Storm Is Over, but the real focus is on The Potter's House Mass Choir.
Musically, The Potter's House Mass Choir crosses several boundaries, somewhere between contemporary pop and traditional black gospel with a healthy dose of R&B sprinkled here and there. The highlights of the album feature some well-known talent. The title track is an inspiring pop/R&B song written by mainstream success R. Kelly. Well-known gospel artist Donnie McClurkin demonstrates his vocal prowess on "Let Your Glory Fill This Place." The modern gospel flavored "When My Season Comes" features the talents of vocalist Myron Williams. And "Marvelous" features a knockout vocal performance by acclaimed vocalist Beverly Crawford. There's probably a little more pop in here compared to many other R&B-seasoned gospel projects, but if you like contemporary pop and gospel music mixed together fairly evenly, you'll want to check out this highly anticipated debut from Bishop Jakes and The Potter's House Mass Choir.
