Kids of the Kingdom
Wit and wackiness from the mouths of babes.
From our readers
My son Josh was almost 5, and I was reading the biblical account of David and Goliath to him. I had forgotten that David not only slays the giant brute but stands on his shoulder and, with Goliath's sword, cuts off his head. I hesitated. "Go on, Mom," Josh urged. Slowly, I continued reading the story as it was written. Then I looked up into a pair of very wide eyes. "That's okay, Mom," Josh said earnestly, "he needed it." Susan Redstone, McPherson, Kansas
When my identical twin sons were only 3, our pastor and his family were moving to Utah to do mission work. As I hurried to get the rest of my children into the car, one twin, Josh, was straggling behind. "Come on, honey. We have to get going," I said. "Pastor and his family are leaving today. We have to go say goodbye." He stopped and looked very sad. "Oh no, Mom. Now who's gonna be God?" Kira Knobloch, Allegan, Michigan
Our 5-year-old granddaughter, Alysse, had forgotten to bring her teddy when she came for the weekend. To comfort her at bedtime, I offered a cuddly replacement, a soft, plush M&M figure, complete with arms, legs, and a smiley face. She gave me a questioning look; then tossing out the M&M, she stated emphatically, "I don't sleep with him. He's food!" Ella Sailor, Elbow, Saskatchewan
Admiring the sunset, I pointed out to our 4-year-old grandson, Bobby, all the colors God uses to paint the sky.
"Yes," Bobby agreed. "And He doesn't have to stay in the lines." T. LaMance, Prewitt, New Mexico
