Kids of the Kingdom
Wit and wackiness from the mouths of babes.
From our readers
Heard It Through the Grapevine It didn't take long for good news to get around our small country church. But we surely set a record when my sister, Becky, announced to her Sunday school class of 5-year-olds that she was expecting her first baby. While most of the kids were very excited, little Jeffrey simply shrugged. "My mother already told me," he said. "I knew it before you did!" Linda Darby Hughes, Douglasville, Georgia
Quality Time My 4-year-old daughter and I were enjoying a rare day of vacation, playing in her sandbox, and being thankful for our time together. Or so I thought. When I rose to get us a drink, she called after me, "Can you bring the TV out here?" Tonya Stockton, Texarkana, Texas
Innocence Lost My son Tucker has big and beautiful brown eyes that have been the subject of comments from passersby since he was an infant. One night when Tuck was 4, I was snuggling with him at bedtime. As I looked deep into his eyes, the innocence I saw there choked me up. "I see God in your eyes, Tuck," I whispered to him. He cupped my cheek with his dimpled hand, looked directly at me, and said, "I see God in your eyes, too, Mama." Then he squinted a bit, smiled, and said, "Oh, that's not God. That's just my reflection!" Rebecca Valentine, Windsor, Colorado
Heaven Can Wait My 5-year-old daughter, Kayse, grew more and more excited about her first day of kindergarten, and her 3-year-old sister, Jayme, watched her with great fascination. On the Sunday before the first day of school, Kayse fell and skinned her knee. Tears began to flow, and Jayme, seeing the blood on her big sister's knee, tried to comfort her, saying, "Don't worry, Kayse. If you die, you'll go to heaven."
But Kayse wailed even more. "I don't want to go to heaven. I want to go to kindergarten!" Hugh Poland, Kingwood, Texas
