Our God Rains
By J. Stephen Lang
Our God Rains You can't have the vibrant greens and exquisite flowers of springtime without rain, so for many of us the blooming season is also the rainy season. In the Bible, rain is usually welcome, but sometimes destructive (remember that business with Noah?). If you need a way to pass the time on a pleasant rainy day, test your knowledge of rain in the Book of Books.
- In the flood story found in Genesis, the rain fell for how long?
- The prophet Elijah told what wicked king that the land would go years without rain?
- Complete this verse from Proverbs: "Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of _____ he does not give.
- What persons are referred to in the brief Letter of Jude as "clouds without rain, blown along by the wind"?
- According to Jesus, God sends his rain on what two categories of people?
- What great prophet asked the rhetorical questions, "Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers?"
- In Jesus' parable, the house that falls when the rain and winds come is built upon what foundation?
- In the Book of Joshua, the Israelites crossed what river at flood stage?
- What book speaks of "two witnesses" with power to "shut up the sky" so that no rain falls?
- According to Proverbs, a "quarrelsome _____ is like constant dripping on a rainy day."
Bonus Puzzler
- Where was Paul when some friendly natives built a fire "because it was raining and cold"?
