Second Opinion
To start a discussion on core values, our youth pastor asked the teenagers: "What would you do if your doctor told you that you had only twenty-four hours to live?" The teens mentioned being with friends and family, and the discussion seemed headed in the right direction. But it came undone when Jason, our thirteen-year-old, said, "I'd get a second opinion."

After receiving the news that our son had been born, both sets of grandparents arrived at the hospital together. Just getting out of the car was quite an ordeal since all four were in various stages of recovery from knee operations and hip replacements. As the foursome hobbled towards the hospital entrance, brandishing canes and walkers, my mother quipped, "Mercy! I hope they don't admit us before we get to the maternity ward."

I was phoning my parents near St. Peter, Minnesota, from New Jersey in the days when telephone operators still put through calls. When we were disconnected mid-conversation, I asked the New Jersey operator to please place the call again. The New Jersey operator asked the Minnesota operator, "Who am I connected to?"
"St. Peter," came the reply.
I nearly laughed out loud when I heard the New Jersey operator exclaim, "Heavens, I don't want him yet even if this is my last night of work!"

I always scoffed at the idea of a generation gap-until recently, that is. While talking to my pre-teen daughter, I mentioned how important it was to be chaste.
"But why, Mom?" she asked. "I'd rather do the chasing myself instead of beingchased."

As teacher of the "20-Something" Sunday school class, I receive information on prospective new members for our group. Recently, one person had noted on his sheet under "Circumstances of Salvation" that he had "Accepted Christ in high school. Was baptized but would like to be reimbursed (crossed out)-reimmersed."
