Today's Christian, January/February 1999

Our congregation sat quietly, anticipating the special Senior Adult Day choir presentation.

Suddenly from out of nowhere, a purse and Bible came flying through the air into the baptistery, followed immediately by one of the women choir members. Everyone gasped as her mid-air plunge ended in the baptismal pool. She quickly emerged from her unexpected bath and hurried out of sight.

Obviously, nobody warned her that only the first landing behind the platform leads to the choir loft. The second one will get you wet.

—Billie Friel
Mt. Juliet, Tennessee

After a successful week of mission fund-raising, my church sponsored a Sunday luncheon. Two pots of soup stock were ordered from our kitchen, and everyone brought something to put into our "stone" soup.

One pot was used for potatoes only; the second pot held everything else. Church members raved about the potato soup, but no one commented on the other.

Not long into the meal, someone told the kitchen workers that they didn't need to make juice for the children; there was lemonade left over in the big soup pot from the previous day's garage sale. One bad soup mystery solved!

—Lyn Hill
London, Ontario

At a ladies prayer meeting, I asked God for a car to replace the "lemon" we were using.

A week later, my parents came to visit, and let me borrow their Lincoln Town Car. As I pulled into the church parking lot, my amazed friends remembered my request from the previous week.

"Hey!" one woman exclaimed. "Our daughter needs a car for college. Let's pray for her!"

—Sue Shoger
Lakeland, Florida

My friend, Bob Streeter, was in town to officiate a wedding, so I asked him to preach at the church I pastor.

After the service, as he drove away, there was an awful rattling sound. Tied to the bumper of his van he discovered several cans with an accompanying sign: Just Preached a Good One!

It was my way of having fun and being encouraging at the same time.

—Doug Sharrard
Gas City, Indiana
