All in the Family
Several years ago, I was a missionary with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Arkansas and returned home for an extended vacation from Thanksgiving to Christmas. My family saw this as a great opportunity to set me up with one of the single guys at their church, Kent, who works for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) in Indiana and was a friend of my aunt's. Since he'd been on two short-term mission projects similar to ones I'd been on, they reasoned we'd hit it off.
On the day we were scheduled to meet, my mom drove me to my aunt's house so Kent would have to bring me home (my whole family is so sneaky!). When he walked in the door, I was surprised by how handsome he wasI was told he was, but you never know! We were introduced, and started talking like we'd known each other for years.
He took me home at the end of the evening and asked for my phone number. Two days later, he called and asked me out. Of course I said YES!
The neatest part of all this is that my aunt, grandma, and mom had prayed for Kent to come to know Jesus when he was in high schooland now he's their in-law (my husband). God is faithful!

A Devoted Fan
While I was still in my cheerleading uniform after a University of Maryland basketball game, my husband-to-be came down to the court and said he couldn't take his eyes off me. Since he was wearing binoculars and a kind smile, I believed him. I didn't agree to go out with him at first, but that night he told his mom he met the woman he would marry.
After several phone calls, we discovered we shared a profound love for Jesus Christ and a common gift of music. And so, one year to the day of our very first date, he proposed.
We recently celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary and I praise God that togetheralong with our three beautiful childrenwe're able to glorify his name through music.

Just Friends?
Doug was in a group of guys I knew at a nearby fraternity. They were a lot of fun, but I never considered a serious relationship with any of them.
With these friends in the background, I developed a checklist of qualities for my future husband and began using every human effort to find that perfect man. To my frustration, it wasn't working. The summer before my senior year, I prayed, "Lord, I give up. You know the man you want me to marry. I'll wait until you show him to me." I spent the summer with my family and no dates. Little did I know that three thousand miles away, Doug had prayed a similar prayer.
We returned to school in August, and in the first week of school, Doug and I ran into each other more often than we had in the first two years of our friendship. And at each of these "chance" meetings, we became more interested in each other.
