God's Blueprint for Jerry
This Week's Theme: Job Satisfaction
Monday, February 5

Key Bible Verse: Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3).
Bonus Reading: Proverbs 4:11-12, 18; 22:29

Jerry started right out of high school, working on the plant floor. Playing shortstop on the company's ball team, Jerry rubbed shoulders with employees in other companies and realized things were pretty good here. He decided to stay long-term.

One day, Jerry got the eye of Belinda, an attractive young secretary. They were soon married, and Belinda left her work to care for their family. They were able to get by on Jerry's income, with a little help from secretarial odd jobs Belinda could do out of their home.

Jerry took some courses at the community college. When a position opened up for a lab technician, Jerry applied and was selected. He soon shone at bridging the gap between engineering and the plant floor.

As the company increased its field training, Jerry was again the successful candidate for a trainer position. He impressed our customers with his technical knowledge and people skills. Now he fills the top position in our training program; several others work for him.

We are at our highest and best as Jerry's employer if we can provide a context for his growth and enable him to find and fit in with God's blueprint for his life.

—John D. Beckett in Loving Monday

Respond:
Excellence in the day-to-day yields excellence over the long haul. Resolve to give yourself fully to the tasks at hand. Thought to Apply:
When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.

—John Ruskin (English art critic, 19th century)

Adapted from Loving Monday (InterVarsity, 1998).
