If you’re an Indelible Grace fan, you may recognize Jones as a frequent contributor (and founding member). For his new solo album, Jones re-recorded and rearranged songs from previous albums, plus two new songs, and limited himself to acoustic instrumentation. But these aren’t bare versions. Some feature rich string arrangements (“Homage for the Suffering”) and ethereal studio layering (“Beneath the Silver Moon”). Ever moody, Jones has a thick, honey-dipped voice prone to falsetto flourishes, though his songwriting is a bit homogeneous. Still, Until the Dawn Appears is as good a place as any to delve into MPJ’s catalog.
