Mullen has come a long way since her days as a backup dancer and singer for the likes of Newsboys and Amy Grant. In fact, since the release of her first solo album 20 years ago, the 47-year-old singer/songwriter has only managed to get stronger, as evidenced by this soulful and affecting work. Mullen works in a fine chameleonic mode on this new disc, tapping into string-drenched pop, slinky funk, and baleful acoustic balladry. An unfortunate misstep into the world of reggae aside, she masters each genre ably and raises the bar for her fellow worship performers.
