Style: 80s throw-back synth-pop; sounds like Owl City, Postal Service
Top Tracks: “Easy” “Sleep to Dream” and “Jacques Cousteau”
At first listen, this album gives off a bubble-gum pop feel that would leave most people cringing. But it only takes about a minute for this throw-back synth-pop to become infectious. Frontman Austin Tofte–the one-man band who makes up SWD–used to team with friend Adam Young to form Owl City, but both have gone their separate ways. Water Colors has the same innocent sweetness and feel-good nature as some of Young’s music. Upbeat tunes like “Easy” and “Jacques Cousteau” create a certain sense of nostalgia, and just in time for a soundtrack for summer driving.
