Top tracks: “Bring You Out,” “Pop Pop Pop,” “Nothing Like Us”

Early in The Ambassador’s fourth full-length album, the rapper admonishes himself: “Remember you’re doing ministry, you’re not just doing art.” It’s a sentiment that carries through this fine, if overly long, disc of intelligent, danceable beats and spiritual rhymes. There’s enough gloss and grit combined on this record to make it the equal of the work of multi-platinum selling hip-hop artists. But the spirit of fostering a connection with God in his listeners is what keeps The Ambassador moving forward here and makes his adroit lyrics as bold as they are boastful.
