Mold Me EP

Christianity Today September 13, 2011

Style: Versatile R&B; compare to Beck, TobyMac, Bibio

Top tracks: “Piece of Sunshine,” “Sierra,” “Mold Me”

The gent behind Joey’s Dream is simply known as Joey here, but is best known as Joey the Jerk when he performs with the hip-hop collective LA Symphony. On his debut solo effort, he only hints at his rap roots, instead centering the music on a neo-soul sound and his velvety vocals. Joey paints with a full palette of emotional colors, sharing the joy of parenthood, sadness with a culture that doesn’t “practice what we preach,” and a touch of anger at his own indifference and sinful nature. It’s an indemnifying and inspiring piece of work.
