Style: Traditional southern gospel; compare to Cathedral Quartet, Booth Brothers
Top Tracks: “Singing in the Midnight Hour,” “Stand by Me”
On Here We Are Again, Haase & Signature Sound traverse the range of the southern gospel tradition, dabbling in the familiar Gaither sound, honky tonk, and charismatic gospel. Despite recent turnover within the group, the newest members seem completely settled, blending nicely. Stylistically, the quartet excels on upbeat tracks like “Stand by Me,” (kudos to Ian Owens’ resonant bass) and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” Unfortunately, their slower tracks tend toward over-sentimentality, and their wild card “Any Other Man” dives into showy rock territory. But overall, listeners will admire their sincere emphasis on Christ and community.
