The 66th annual Cannes Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday, with the Palme d'Or going to Blue is the Warmest Color, a coming-of-age lesbian romance. Blue will go down in film history not only for its intense sexually explicit content, but also for a surprise move from the Cannes jury, led by Steve Spielberg. They made the unprecedented decision to present the award not only to director Abdellatif Kechiche, but also to the two female leads, Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopoulos. Fast and Furious 6 opened this weekend, earning roughly $120 million in the box office. This puts it right behind Iron Man 3 as the second highest opening this year, and ranks it as the fourth highest Memorial Day opening to date. In other box office news, The Hangover Part III opened this weekend, earning $51.2 million—relatively low numbers—while Epic came in higher than anticipated at $42.6 million.
