The coming New Year brings exciting opportunities and challenges with it, but it's also a good time to look back on what was best in the previous year. To that end, we've assembled a list of 10 Bible studies and Spiritual Formation Booklets that were downloaded most from in 2012. If you didn't catch all of them the first time around, take a look at them now. And remember that, as with all of our resources, you only have to download each study once and then can make as many copies as you need.

Psalms: Managing Our Emotions
12-Session Bible Study
Emotions are both complicated and complex, both mysterious and mystifying. Even the experts are not sure what causes us to experience emotions. Both social science and neurobiology have tried, to no avail, to explain the origin of emotions. And for Christians, emotions can be troubling, frustrating, and untrustworthy. Some emotions seem deeply spiritual; other emotions seem downright sinful. God created us to experience emotions, yet there are still godly and ungodly ways to manage them. This study on the Book of Psalms will help you sort this out.

Glorify God Together: A Marriage of Purpose
Single-Session Bible Study
A marriage centered on Christ is specifically focused on glorifying God, according to Rick Warren in his article entitled "The Purpose-Driven Marriage," written for Marriage Partnership. Our main purpose in marriage should be much greater than fulfilling our own wants and needs or even the wants and needs of our spouse. Our main purpose in marriage should be to focus on being of the same mind, according to Jesus, so that with one accord and one voice we glorify God. This study asks: Why did God give us the institution of marriage? What is the purpose of marriage? How can our marriage bring glory to God? How can the marriage relationship help make us holy?

Misusing the Bible
Single-Session Bible Study
Christians readily assert that we are people of the Bible—that God's Word gives us our perspective, worldview, and marching orders about life. We vigorously defend the historicity, perspicuity, and relevance of Scripture, calling our friends and neighbors to come under its authority. We'll hold Bible studies, read and write books about the Bible, and write checks to get God's Word into the hands of people around the world who do not yet own a copy. And yet, when push comes to shove we often treat the Bible as a magic book focused solely on our own wants and needs. We need to put God and his glory first in order to properly use the Bible.

The Minor Prophets: God Still Speaks Today
12-Session Bible Study
Be honest. When did you last read a book like Obadiah or Nahum? Or perhaps the better question is "Have you ever read Obadiah?" or "Where do I find Haggai?" The Minor Prophets form the last 12 books of the Old Testament. Theologian James Montgomery Boice comments on how the Minor Prophets dramatize the character of God as few other books do: "They highlight God's sovereignty … holiness … [and] love …. In the Minor Prophets, we will hear the voice of God speaking to us in a fresh way … as individuals and as a spiritual fellowship in the church."

Liturgy for Lent, Even If You're Non-Liturgical
Single-Session Bible Study
Liturgical churches help lead the faithful to deeper, biblical lessons through seasons in order to prepare for major Christian observances. Through experience and practice, the 40 days of Lent can help Christians to prepare spiritually for the central moment of the Christian year: Easter. Yet many Christians have not prepared for the joys of Easter by simplifying the life of faith, deepening prayer and Bible reading, practicing Christian disciplines, and engaging in a sacrificial life. A liturgical Lent makes a profound difference in a believer's life. Even if liturgy has not been part of your tradition, you can learn from its practice.
