Sounds like: A smooth jazz/folk/pop hybrid; compare to Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, John Prine
Top tracks: "Sing It Loud," "Habit of Mind," "Perfect Word"
k.d. lang's 13th studio album is also the singer's first LP with a brand new collaborator, former Guster multi-instrumentalist Joe Pisapia. The two not only co-produced this fine collection of country-tinged pop, but they also wrote the majority of the songs within. With Pisapia's help, lang reins in her torch singer and wannabe pop star sensibilities for something much more subtle and much more suited to her distinctive and warm voice. Pisapia also brings to the table a fantastic title track that emphasizes self-assurance and faith in the midst of life's trials, a theme that gets carried throughout this lovely and assured album.
